About NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. Launched in 1969, its core objective is to develop the personality and character of students through voluntary community service. Under the motto "Not Me But You," NSS promotes community-oriented activities among students in schools (+2 level), colleges, and universities. By bridging the gap between the community and the academic campus, NSS seeks to develop in young people a feeling of social and civic duty, leadership skills, and national integration.

The NSS (National Service Scheme) unit at the Government Institute of Forensic Science, Nagpur, is a vibrant and dedicated body operating with a capacity of 100 enthusiastic student volunteers. The unit engages in a variety of community-focused initiatives that are in line with the NSS and institute's purpose and of holistic development, such as blood donation camps, environmental drives, legal literacy classes, community services, health awareness campaigns. NSS volunteers engage in frequent outreach within Nagpur’s Civil Lines and nearby areas, helping bridge the gap between forensic expertise and public good. In addition to their academic training in forensic science, this hands-on civic engagement enables students to cultivate empathy, leadership, teamwork, and practical problem-solving abilities.
