Department of Physics and Ballistics
Physics and Ballistics department deals with examinations and comparisons of various physical evidences based on their physical attributes viz. density, refractive index, resistivity, temperature, luminescence, elasticity and composition. The physical evidences that are examined are paint, glass, soil, fibres, metallic pieces, threads, ropes, knots and obliterated marks. Another major part Ballistics i.e. the science of projectiles and firearms. The examination of firearms leads to determination of the nature and types of weapons used in the crime and range of firing. The examinations also link the fired bullets/cartridge cases with the suspect weapons. The course comprises of basic physics, electronics, ballistics, trace analysis, accident reconstruction, elements of photography and study of various instruments used in investigation and analysis of evidences.
